Purified Gems are items that can be used during Shadow Raid Battles to subdue and weaken enraged Shadow Pokémon Raid Bosses. They are created from four Shadow Shards that can be obtained after defeating Team GO Rocket members or as rewards from Shadow Raid Battles.

.Shadow Shard[]
Shadow Shards are items that have a chance of being rewarding after defeating Team GO Rocket members or as rewards from Shadow Raid Battles. Once four of them are collected, they are automatically added to the Shard Refiner to craft a Purified Gem. Trainers cannot obtain further Shadow Shards if they own 10 or more Purified Gems.[1]

Using Purified Gems[]
The option to use a Purified Gem appears when the Shadow Raid Boss is "enraged."
Purified Gems can only be used once the Shadow Raid Boss has reached its "enraged" state, which happens once it loses approximately 1/3 of its HP.[4] Once enough Purified Gems are used, the Shadow Raid Boss set to its "subdued" state early, which removes the buffs given from the enraged state.
Each Trainer can use 5 Purified Gems per Shadow Raid Battle. There is a 5 second cool-down between each Gem use. Purified Gems are not refunded if the Raid is failed.
It takes 8 Purified Gems across all Trainers participating in the Shadow Raid Battle to trigger the subdued state of a Shadow Raid Boss.[5][6] Despite the official Niantic blog post detailing the mechanic,[7] there currently is no evidence of individual Purified Gems having any effect on the Raid before the threshold of 8 is met.[8]
