Max Battles are cooperative battles that take place within Power Spots. Up to four Trainers can team up to defeat the Power Spot Boss and catch a Dynamax Pokémon, or up to 100 Trainers in teams of 4 to defeat and catch a Gigantamax Pokémon.[1]
Details[]
- Max Battles occur only at Power Spots.
- Max Battles are unlocked at Trainer level 20.
- A certain amount of Max Particles is required to enter a Max Battle, depending on the Tier of the Power Spot Boss. They are only consumed if the Max Battle is won.
- Max Battles can be joined remotely by using a Remote Raid Pass in addition to the required amount of Max Particles. Remote Raid Pass is consumed when the Max Battle begins.

- Up to 4 Trainers may participate in a Max Battle together in a lobby.
- In Six-star Max Battles, up to 100 Trainers can join a lobby, divided into teams of 4.
- Only Dynamax-capable Pokémon, Gigantamax-capable Pokémon, Crowned Sword Zacian, Crowned Shield Zamazenta, and Eternatus may participate in a Max Battle. A team of up to 3 of these Pokémon can be brought.
- To start, the Max Battle works similarly to a Raid Battle. The battle is real-time; Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks work the same as they do in raids. Attacking will fill the Max Meter. Once it is full, each Trainers' Pokémon will Dynamax. All Trainers within the same team will contribute to charging the same Max Meter.
- The amount of charge added to the Max Meter is dependent on the amount of damage an attack does compared to the total HP of the Power Spot Boss, with a minimum of 1 point of charge.
- The Max Meter is full once it reaches 100 points of charge.
- Energy icons may appear during the Max Battle in item bubbles. By swiping the active Pokémon to collide into it, they will be collected and charge the Max Meter by 10%.
- The Power Spot Boss will use two different charged attacks during the fight, chosen at random from its available move pool, including elite moves.[2]
- One of the Charged Attacks will be announced as "<Boss> is preparing a large attack!". This attack will target all members in the Max Battle and cannot be dodged.
- The other Charged Attack will target a specific Trainer. Swiping as soon as the prompt appears over the active Pokémon will cause it to dodge the attack, greatly reducing the amount of damage taken. When choosing which Pokémon to target with this type of attack, the Power Spot Boss will prioritize targeting Pokémon that have been shielded via Max Guard.
- When the meter is full, a 3-second countdown starts before all active Pokémon Dynamax or Gigantamax. During this time, the active Pokémon can be swapped with with another one from the chosen battle party, which will change the one that will Dynamax or Gigantamax.
- Crowned Sword Zacian, Crowned Shield Zamazenta, and Eternatus cannot Dynamax or Gigantamax, but can still proceed to the Max Move phase.
- After Dynamaxing or Gigantamaxing, the Max Battle transitions into a turn-based system.
- Each Trainer in the same team must select a Max Move to be used during the turn.
- All Max Moves will happen simultaneously when each participant is done selecting.
- If a Trainer does not select their move before a timer is up, their Pokémon's Max Attack will be selected by default.
- Dynamax/Gigantamax lasts for 3 turns. Afterwards, each Pokémon will revert to its standard form and Max Meter will be reset. This cycle continues until the Power Spot Boss is defeated or all Pokémon in the battle faint.
- Unlike Raids, if all of a Trainer's Pokémon faint while battling a three-star or higher boss, they cannot battle anymore. Instead, an option to "Cheer" will be available, which helps to charge the team's Max Meter.
- In Six-star Max Battles, cheering also charges other teams' Max Meters.
- Max Battles have no time limit. However, after roughly 6 minutes into the battle, the Power Spot Boss will get "desperate", meaning its attacks will become much more powerful.
Rewards[]
Completing a Max Battle awards XP, Stardust, items, and 10 Premier Balls to use during the capture phase. In-person Max Battle rewards additional 2,500 XP and 2 Premier Balls. Rewards and Premier Balls can be doubled by spending

After winning a Max Battle, a Pokémon from the used battle party may be placed at the Power Spot to earn Candy, Candy XL, and give future Trainers a damage bonus. Rewards are given when the Pokémon returns from the Power Spot, which happens after the Pokémon has assisted in enough Max Battles, the Power Spot closes, or the Pokémon is manually recalled.
Advanced tips[]
- For higher difficulty Max Battles, since the amount of max HP a Power Spot Boss is incredibly high, Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks will typically only earn 1 point of charge towards the Max Meter. As such, it can be advantageous to only use short duration Fast Attacks to focus on charging the Max Meter as quickly as possbile.[3]
- Crowned Shield Zamazenta will start a Max Battle with one use of Guard applied if it has it unlocked.[4]
