Max Battles are cooperative battles that take place within Power Spots. Up to four Trainers can team up to defeat the Power Spot Boss and catch a Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.[1]
Details[]
- Max Battles occur only a Power Spots.
- A certain amount of Max Particles is required to enter a Max Battle, depending on the Tier of the Power Spot Boss. They are only consumed if the Max Battle is won.
- One-star: 250 MP
- Two-star: 400 MP
- Three-star: 400 MP
- Four-star: 800 MP
- Six-star (Gigantamax): 800 MP
- Up to 4 Trainers may participate in a Max Battle together in a lobby.
- In Six-star Max Battles, up to 40 Trainers can join a lobby, divided into teams of 4.
- Only Dynamax or Gigantamax capable Pokémon may participate in a Max Battle. A team of up to 3 of these Pokémon can be brought.
- To start, the Max Battle works similarly to a Raid Battle. The battle is real-time; Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks work the same as they do in raids. Attacking also fills the Max Meter, and when it is full, your Pokémon will Dynamax.
- The Power Spot Boss will use two different charge attacks during the fight, chosen at random from its available movepool, including elite moves.[2]
- One of the Charged Attacks will be announced as "<Boss> is preparing a large attack!". This attack will target all members in the Max Battle and cannot be dodged.
- The other Charged Attack will target a specific player. Swiping as soon as the prompt appears over your Pokémon will cause your Pokémon is dodge the attack, greatly reducing the amount of damage taken. When choosing who to target with this type of attack, the Power Spot Boss will prioritize targeting Pokémon that have been shielded via Max Guard.
- Energy icons will appear during the Max Battle in item bubbles. If you swipe your active Pokémon to collide into it, they will be collected and charge the meter by about 10%.
- When the meter is full, a 3-second countdown starts before your Pokémon Dynamax. During this time, you can swap out which Pokémon you are using with another from your battle party, which will change the one that will Dynamax.
- When your Pokémon Dynamax, the Max Battle transitions into a turn-based system.
- Each participant must select a Max Move to be used during the turn.
- All Max Moves will happen simultaneously when each participant is done selecting.
- If a participant does not select their move before a timer is up, their Pokémon's Max Attack will be selected by default.
- Dynamax lasts for 3 turns.
- If all of your Pokémon faint while battling a three-star or higher boss, you cannot battle anymore. Instead, an option to cheer will be available, which charges your allies' meters.
- After roughly 6 minutes into the battle, the Power Spot Boss will get "desperate", meaning its attacks will become much more powerful.
