Pokémon GO is in constant development since its official launch and has received multiple updates, that are listed below.
There are two sorts of updates the game gets, first one are public client updates which player have to download from Play Store, App Store or APKMirror in order to have game up to date, second sort of updates are server-sided ones, which can be released at any time and player does not have to download them manually. The game have been updated also in its closed beta testing phase.

Trainer Battles take place in one of the three Trainer Battle Leagues, and each requires a team of three Pokémon. Each Trainer Battle League has different Pokémon CP limits.
New hair colors and skin tones will be available for Trainer avatars.

Updated Gym Training: Trainers can now bring six Pokémon to battle at friendly Gyms. The CP of the Pokémon you are battling may be temporarily adjusted lower for your training session.
Egg & Incubator Screens: These will periodically update the distance walked without the Trainer needing to close and reopen the screen.

List of closed beta client updates
It is currently difficult to track how many version updates was actually released for a field-testing purposes that access to had only group of selected users.
Items referenced in game code to be available in the shop: Storage Upgrade (Bag Upgrade), Pokémon Storage Upgrade, Incense, Incubator, Lucky Egg, PokéStop Disc (unknown purpose and features) and Revive.
Server-sided updates do not require an update on the app client and affect all players at the same time. They are harder to track than game client updates and it is nearly impossible to list them all, as most of them is not publicly logged nor announced by game creators. However, following changes to the game are caused by server-sided updates:
most of event features in general (including multiplied or bonus amounts of rewarded XP, Stardust and Candy; shortened distances for Buddy Pokémon and incubated Eggs).
