Gym Badge

Gym Badges serve as mementos of a Trainer's Pokémon GO adventures and reflect their contribution to a Gym's success.[1]

Details[]

As a Trainer interacts more and more with a Gym – through battling in the Gym, defending the Gym for certain periods of time, or by giving Pokémon treats – they'll receive recognition in the form of a Badge. Badges have four tiers: Basic, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Trainers will unlock new tiers as they interact more with the Gyms. As a reward for frequent interactions with a Gym, badges will grant Trainers bonus items when spinning the Photo Disc.[2]

Viewing badges[]

Badges can be viewed by:

  1. Touching the Trainer Profile icon in the Map View.
  2. Scrolling down to the Gym Badge section.
  3. Touching the List button to see a full listing of all Badges.
  4. Touching any Badge to view details about interactions with the Gym.

Badges can also be displayed by selecting the Badge Map button.[2]

Badge map[]

The Badge map is a visual map of the world where a Trainer has made Badge progress towards their Gyms. As this map is low resolution, it is quite inaccurate. For example, if you live in a coastal town or city, you and any gyms that you earn a badge for there may appear to be in the ocean on this map.

Leveling up badges[]

Trainers will be able to level up their Badges by battling, giving Berries to the Pokémon in the Gym and spinning the Gym's Photo Disc. Trainers will earn the opportunity to receive bonus items and increased rewards from Gyms by raising the level of their Gym Badge.[1]

As a player gains more experience at a Gym, the corresponding Gym Badge attains higher tiers: Bronze, Silver, then Gold. Below are the experience thresholds for each Gym tier:

Tier XP Needed
Gym Badge Tier Vanilla
Basic
0
Gym Badge Tier Bronze
Bronze
500
Gym Badge Tier Silver
Silver
4000
Gym Badge Tier Gold
Gold
30,000

Each tier adds an additional item given by spinning the Gym's Photo Disc. The circle surrounding these items in the summary is colored gold.

Experience in a gym can be gained through completing a number of different actions:

Action XP Awarded
Placing Pokémon in Gym 100
Defeating Pokémon in Gym battle 1 per 100 CP of defending Pokémon (rounded down)
Feeding berry to Pokémon in Gym 10
Defeating a Raid Boss 1000
Keeping a Pokémon inside a Gym 1 per minute
