Event Pokémon, also called costumed Pokémon, are specifically made for events with visual attributes closely related to the event theme, such as themed hats, clothes, or costumes. Both regular and shiny can be obtainable during certain events. Some Event Pokémon have only the male/female gender available. They can be seen in the Pokémon collection by using costume search filter. Event Pokémon are recorded in the Event Pokédex. Clone Pokémon are considered Event Pokémon in the search, but are not registered in the Event Pokédex.
Some Event Pokémon cannot evolve, while the non-costumed form can. When Event Pokémon are able to evolve, they keep the piece of costume. Event Pokémon do not have any costume when Mega-Evolved. In some events, the ability to evolve a certain non-evolvable form is released. Clone Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise cannot Mega Evolve. The Event Pokémon forms are presented on Pokémon individual pages, in the Event Pokémon forms section of the article (such as in Pikachu's). Unlike regular forms, Event Pokémon cannot be transferred to other games.
In general, all Event Pokémon have the same stats as the non-costumed Pokémon form, the only difference being the visual attributes. However, some Event Pokémon are treated in the game code as different Pokémon forms (e.g. Alolan, Galarian, and Shadow). These Event Pokémon can present several different characteristics, and their corresponding Shiny switches in the Event Pokédex are unlocked if, and only if, the costumed Shiny form is caught. The Event Pokémon that have this characteristic are:
- Halloween Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu.
- Clone Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Pikachu.
