Latios with a Jeju Island Location Background
Backgrounds in Pokémon GO are cosmetic souvenir images that appear on a Pokémon's summary page, indicating that the Pokémon was caught during a special event. There are two different types of Backgrounds: Location Backgrounds for in-person events, and Special Backgrounds for global events.
Certain Pokémon have a chance to have a Background after being caught from Raid Battles or research during specific events, unless otherwise noted. During in-person events, the first of each featured Pokémon species caught is guaranteed to have a Location Background.
The Background image rotates with the previous background of the Pokémon's summary page.

Trivia[]
- Backgrounds (originally known as Location Cards) were introduced on February 18th, 2023.
- Pokémon with Backgrounds will force an alert before being transferred.
- Lucky Pokémon alternate between the lucky effect and the event Background. The lucky effect is not visible while the event Background is displayed.
- On June 25th, 2024, Location Cards were officially renamed to Backgrounds as part of the Pokémon GO Fest 2024 release of Special Backgrounds.[1]
